Food and Drink

Located on Scott Street, Blackstone’s Cafe is a hidden gem in Downtown Beaufort providing locals with tasty breakfast and lunch dishes. Blackstone’s is both family and pet-friendly, with a beautiful patio offering striking views of the surrounding city from each table. Usually closing in the early afternoon after lunch hours have ended, the cafe keeps its doors open late for First Friday every month.

The Beaufort Bread Company is a local Artisan Bakery offering old-fashioned bread, pastries, and homemade pasta. With organic flours and fresh local ingredients, the motto they live by is “Handmade in the Lowcountry.” Take a seat inside to enjoy a freshly prepared hot meal, or pick up a package of hand-crafted sausages and bread to take home for your own meal.

A trip to First Friday could never be complete without a visit to the Lollipop Shop. This iconic candy store is a jackpot of colorful confections to satisfy your sugar cravings. With over 400 different types of candy throughout the shelves, it would be impossible to exit these sweet aisles empty-handed.

Arts and Crafts

Stock up on supplies at Coastal Art Supply, an eclectic craft store located on West Street, or check out hand-printed cards and personalized keepsakes at Artsy Letters. The owner of the shop, Robyn Hood Black, shared a heartfelt story about her adventures as a poet and children’s book author at a recent First Friday celebration.

If you’re not much of an artist yourself, you can visit an art gallery to observe the creative and colorful artwork on display. Just a few steps away from Bay Street, Atelier on the Bay actively participates in the First Friday celebrations, with tons of beautiful pieces to view and artists to meet along the way. You should also pay a visit to Thibault Gallery and the I. Pickney Simons Gallery to walk through antique paintings, sculptures, and diverse cultural artwork.
